Nika joined us in June 2017 and brought with her nearly a decade of experience as a writer and journalist focusing on environmental justice. She oversees the Strategy Center's communications department, advancing program goals, fund development, and organizational mission through all messages, materials, and communications. She directs our press outreach, manages our social media channels, works closely with our development team on fundraising, and writes and manages our online content.
In her previous life as a journalist, Nika reported on environmental health stories close to home and in far-flung locales: from indigenous communities facing health impacts from tar sands mining in Alberta, Canada, to the health and environmental ramifications of fracking waste disposal in northeast Ohio. In all her work, she seeks to elevate human stories.
Prior to joining the Strategy Center, Nika was a staff writer and assistant editor at the progressive news site Common Dreams. Previously, she worked as a freelance writer, editor, and German translator after graduating with an MFA in nonfiction writing and literary translation from Columbia University in 2015. She received a BA in comparative literature from Oberlin College in 2009.
